Immigrants make up nearly 40% of Canada’s early learning and child care workforce providers in the sector and more than half of home-based child care professionals, according to recent data.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) says the strength of Canada’s immigration system is a key factor in supporting the country’s ability to meet growing child care demands. As the federal and provincial governments expand access to affordable early learning programs, immigrants continue to play a critical role in filling staffing gaps and bringing cultural and linguistic diversity to classrooms. Their contributions not only support the well-being and development of children but also enable parents to participate in the workforce, bolstering Canada’s economy.
