Canada has announced $60 million in new funding to help stabilize Haiti as the Caribbean nation grapples with escalating gang violence and political turmoil. Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand unveiled the funding during a High-Level meeting of the United Nations Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Haiti, held alongside the UN General Assembly in New York. The funds will back multilateral efforts to restore security and protect civilians amid ongoing crises.

Of the total, $40 million will go toward the multinational security support mission or its successor pending approval of a UN Security Council resolution on Haiti.

An additional $20 million will support a Regional Maritime Security Initiative designed to strengthen the fight against transnational organized crime in Haiti and across the Caribbean. Canadian officials say the investment underscores the country’s long-standing commitment to promoting security, democracy and sustainable development in Haiti.
